My kennel

I became interested in the Bracco Italiano when I read about the breed in an Italian hunting magazine. The description of the nature of the Bracco in combination with its appearance was the impuls for me to start looking for my own Bracco. In 1993 Giotto arrived.

Near the family

In 2001 I moved to Kleine Huisjes, a small village in the northern part of The Netherlands. I found a place where my boyfriend, my Braccos, and I feel at home. Behind the house we have a garden which for a good part is copped by our dogs to be used as playground. When the dogs aren't playing or working, they live with us in the house. Through the years I have noticed that keeping a Bracco near the family, has a positive effect on his behaviour. This is one of the guidelines of Vicini del Monastero: a Bracco is a pet who deserves to live close to his owners and who shouldn't be kept on his own in a kennel. Keeping a Bracco in the house doesn't mean you shouldn't do field-trials or hunt with him. Even though a Bracco enjoys being with people, he likes nothing more than accompany his owner in the field. One of the requirements for becoming an owner of a Vicini del Monastero-Bracco is that you work with your dog. This doesn't mean that you have to take him to field trials or go hunting. Taking him to obedience classes will give your dog and yourself a lot of pleasure. You'll find that it is fun to work together with your Bracco.

Health

There aren't many things more terrible than having your newly bought dog put to sleep because of health problems. My top priority as a breeder, are the health of my own dogs and of the breed in general. I try to expel genetic and health deficiencies by accurately choosing the combinations I breed with. In my search for the ideal bitch or dog I always keep in close touch with kennels in and outside The Netherlands, who also have a healthy breed in their best interest.

Scanning

We have the hips of every Vicini del Monastero-Bracco X-rayed. This happens in the 18th month. Besides knowing what state the hips are in (this is called a hip-score), X-raying also helps with the research of hip dysplasia to ultimately expel this deficiency.
